Drab footwear days are over. It’s time to add some spring — and summer — to your step with bright, colorful, and stylish sandals that boast eco cred, too. Here are our fave eco-friendly summer sandals, and some vegan kicks to top the list off, that are hot — and green — enough to knock your socks off. First up: Swedish Hasbeens’ Braided Sky High.

Made with vegetable-tanned natural grain leather that is nailed to a sustainably-harvested wood platform, this style is one I’ve raved about before and I still love it for its classic style, yet seasonally appropriate hue. ($202 at SwedishHasbeens.com)

To Christie’s third annual green auction A Bid To Save the Earth, I donned this gorgeous vintage dress that I showed you a sneak peek of a few weeks ago. I got the vintage dress for $25—that I bargained down from $35—and if I had a dime for every compliment I got, it would have paid for itself.

Not only that, but I’m always flattered when people ask who the designer is when I’m wearing no-name vintage fashion because it proves how seamlessly vintage fashion can fit in to a modern wardrobe. I paired the dress with a vintage velvet purse with a gold chain, vintage gold leaf earrings, and those vibrant platform pumps I love so much.

It’s my annual swimsuit issue: channel old Hollywood glamor with a high-end Olga Olsson’s Lara bikini, comprised of high-waisted briefs and a bandeau top with a tulle halterneck.

Though this sexy Brazilian suit is made with 87% Polyamide/13% Elastane, fabric is sourced close to production and is made by a small atelier of women artisans in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who are paid a living wage. (Lara Moulded Bandeau with Tulle Ties, about $127; Lara High Waisted Briefs, about $127)

On Tuesday, I attended CBS EcoMedia’s cocktail party at the Edison Ballroom in NYC to help celebrate the launch of their new wellness and education initiatives—essentially, the program gives advertisers an opportunity to fund non-profit initiatives.

Big congrats to the team at CBS for the launch. I’m looking forward to seeing the amazing partnerships that, I hope, will prove to be beneficial for not only the non-profits and the people they support but also towards a greater shift in the ad model where ad money supports positive initiatives nationwide.

Folks like GM & Chevrolet, are taking part. So, if you have ad dollars, pay them a visit at ecomediacbs.com and also look out for EcoMedia ad icons in commercials, which signify that the advertiser has helped provide everything from education scholarships to nutritious meal via partnerships with non-profits like Starlight’s Children Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

As for what I wore, the invite said biz attire, which a stretched a little with a lot of color: a purple silk pencil skirt by Michael Kors that I found at Housing Works for $6 paired with a mustard SimplyVera by Vera Wang blouse, a new Coach bag, a birthday gift from my sister’s roomie who works at Coach—BIG thanks, Sabrina—and my fave Kenneth Cole pink silk jacket that I’ve had since high school—and originally got for $20!

Hoppy Easter!

Hoppy Easter!

Last night, I celebrated my 26th birthday with a party at The Jane Ballroom in the The Jane Hotel. I had a blast with friends and danced the night away. I was going to wear a vintage dress but opted for a Cynthia Rowley number from a few seasons ago. I love the color, a cool mint, and the silk fabric; it’s like a modern-day Marie Antoinette dress.

As for the hair, Rayna Hair Artistry at Cutler Salon gave me an amazing Bridget Bardot- and Kristen Stewart on W magazine cover-inspired ‘do! Her work was spot on: more than a few peeps said I looked like a brunette Bridget Bardot, which is what I was going for. Thanks for all the warm birthday wishes!

DIY Nail Polish Trend To Make Your Fingers Look Longer: It’s a lot easier than you think—and no, you don’t need a professional to do it, you can DIY! All you need is two nail polish colors: I’ve done nude (pictured) or gold as the bottom coat and for the top, I opt for my usual classic red and I’ve even tried black, too.

1. Paints your nails as your normally would, with one to two coats.

2. Paint a half moon and then fill it in with color, as pictured. Do two coats.

3. Add a top coat and then you’re done. Just let them dry—duh!

P.S. You can even do this with short nails! You have to try it to believe it. You’ll get so many compliments and will probably get stopped on the street, seriously. And yes, those are my real nails!

It’s my Instagram photo of the day: the good ol’ “Take a Photo of Myself in The Mirror” snap. I can’t wait to show you the entire dress but for now, here’s a sneak peek at an amazing vintage dress I found at a flea market over the weekend.

I steamed the sh** out of it after I got it—for fear of, dare I say it, bed begs—and I am excited to don it. Unforch, it’s too constricting to wear on my birthday and I need something that I can dance, dance, dance in! Keep tuned—and if you have an amazing, fabulous, dress-to-the-nines type event then you know where to send an invite. View more Instagram snaps, here: @pastfashionfuture.

Fashioning Change asked me to style a look using fashion and accessories from their site; here’s what I came up with. From Fashioning Change:

Emma loves pairing unexpected patterns and prints like a black and white pleated gingham skirt with camouflage ballet flats that juxtapose a feminine style and a masculine print. Worn together, the look is classic, yet on-trend, and ideal for a hot summer day.

Known for her colorful, to die for tie-dye prints, Brooklyn-based eco-fashion designer Shabd Simon-Alexander is dipping her toe in an entirely new print: nude. Currently on view at the Whitney Biennial, “Georgia By Shabd” is a collection of garments and textile-based props custom made for performance artist and political activist Georgia Sagri and her interactive exhibit, called “Working the No Work.” Worn by the artist during her performance, each garment gives the illusion of nudity.

Fall 2012 is the season for Lavuk. While past collections have lacked cohesiveness, this season the Los Angeles-based fashion label is getting their footing and defining their signature look.

Comprised of blazers, jackets, skirts, dresses, leggings, and wearable separates, the ready-to-wear collection features feminine yet edgy silhouettes and classic styles with unexpected details like mesh cut outs. In short, it’s just the thing you would see on a polished, urban hipster who has a fashion-forward dress code at the office.

The vibrant patterns and colors in Carrie Parry’s fall 2012 collection might be an homage to the designer’s circus costume designing past but what Parry really nails this season is a modern trend rooted in fashion’s present: color blocking.

Coupled with the designer’s signature suiting—and a splash of vibrant patterns and haute citrus hues—this collection shows that Parry is coming into her own. Until now, the full “Leharia” Fall 2012 collection look book has been kept under wraps but I got a first look in an exclusive for Discovery’s TreeHugger.com: Carrie Parry Suits Up for Fall 2012 with Vibrant Patterns and Color Blocking

Last night, I donned a new-to-me Michael Kors purple silk pencil skirt for a night on the town that included lots of dancing into the wee hours of the morning at The Wooly, in the basement of the Woolworth Building. The skirt was skin tight and fit me like a glove, which is perfect for going out but not so much for the office. I paired it with a sheer silk Oscar de la Renta blouse with beaded detailing on the collar and vintage gold earrings

I paired it with a sheer silk Oscar de la Renta blouse with beaded detailing on the collar and vintage gold earrings.
